Trying Our Luck at Hitchhiking

8/3/13
PCT mile 2303 White Pass - 2319 - 16 mi

6 am breakfast at a local bar & grill then we stood on the road across from the gas station with a smile on our faces and thumbs out.  A new experience!  We tried to look like everybody's favorite auntie. Took us about 30 min when 2 ladies who worked at the Summit Inn at White Pass picked us up on their way to work. Didn't get their names but Thank You ladies!
We started on the trail at 7:50am doing 4.5 uphill miles,  packs heavy with 7 days of supplies. Because we can't hike big miles we end up carrying more food, it's just the way it is. We put our heads down and pulled out 5 miles in 2 hrs 15 min, we were happy with that.  Mosquitoes were bad so we wore headnets as we passed still ponds and occasionally pretty lakes.  There were big puffy clouds in the blue sky making it nice, cool morning hiking. Stopped at 10 miles for lunch at 12:30 and spoke to another section hiker named Todd, a man around  mid 50s, he was surprised to see 2 ladies out hiking too. We passed 2 day hikers and one distance hiker who waved at us by the lake, we didn't see anyone else the rest of the day. This is an example of the lakes we passed.
We had to wade across a river later in the day, rolled up our pants and went across getting shoes & socks wet.  They'll dry soon enough.
We arrived at our camp spot by the side of the trail,  and 40 yards from a small waterfall,  at 4pm having done 16 miles.
