Mt Adams In All It's Glory

7/30/13
PCT mile 3249-226213 miles

I awoke to alpen glow on Mt Adams! It was tinged brilliant pink in the sunrise. Peggy has some soreness in her knee and knuckles, her thumb looks good but needs to be kept clean and bandaged - duct tape works great to keep the padding on. We hiked in alpine meadows in the cool morning taking our time in the beauty.
We came to a large boulder field where probably great streams of snow melt rage as spring warms the air.
We crossed the Lewis River taking lots of time to find the right place to cross without stepping in. It's hard to see the bottom due to glacial silt suspended in the water. It was running faster than we felt comfortable with. Eventually we got across. Weaving down the meadows and around the mountain we saw different views of multiple glaciers, some hanging and some filling deep valleys. Here's some of the meadows and flowers we saw.
We passed 2 young men hiking SoBo (southbound) and talked to them about shin splints which was giving one of them trouble.  We reached a personal mile stone and took a photo...
It was our 100 mile mark!
We took a long break and napped at Lava Spring where a clear stream of water came right out of rocks making a nice pool. I forgot to mention that we have been battling mosquitoes through this area, Deet and head nets have helped. After our rest we had 4 more miles to a camp spot as we came off the mountain and through lower forested areas. We met a young man named Goose who is finishing the PCT this summer, he's a law student in Iowa. He passed us going north but we caught up to him having dinner where we were going to camp, we chatted until he left to hike a few more miles before stopping for the night himself.  This camp spot is a little grassy and may prove to be damp and wet.  My dinner was tortellini with dehydrated spaghetti sauce & Oreo cookies - it tasted good!  Tomorrow there is not much water listed on the map so we'll each carry 3 liters. I was able to recharge my phone today from my solar charger but have had no cell service since Trout Lake.
